Love, Loss & Liverpool FC: Covering The Reds' Year From Hell
by Paul J. Machin
*AUTHOR SIGNED EDITION!*
Liverpool are back on their perch, Champions of England once again, and I'm there, pitchside for the presentation. It is the pinnacle of fifteen years covering the Mighty Reds for Redmen TV. The sun is shining and the sky is tinged with red smoke, it is the greatest day of our lives. Surely the good times are back both professionally and personally?
Erm... No.
2025/26 was the season that I interviewed Mo Salah, Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai and The Million Dollar Man. I saw Liverpool break the British transfer record (twice), alienate the entire city of Newcastle, laugh at Real Madrid and win in the famous San Siro stadium. I published my first work of fiction, nearly got cancelled, and saw a cherished family member succumb to cancer. I also watched and reviewed every Liverpool match along the way; charting the passing of Diogo Jota, the end of the Mo Salah era, the fall of Arne Slot, and the arrival of Andoni Iraola.
"Love, Loss and Liverpool" began life as an anthology of the best, funniest or most milestone articles and analysis of the season, combined with a behind the scenes diary of my life as a professional LFC pundit and YouTuber. But along the way it developed into much more. Now it is a celebration of what it is to be a die hard Liverpool fan in the modern era; trying to find love, positivity, humour and enjoyment even in the most trying of times.
(There are also far more references to Sliding Doors and Star Wars than there probably should be in a book about footy....)
